Because sometimes a Hollywood disappearance isn’t really a disappearance at all—it’s what happens when an actress becomes unforgettable across several major franchises before choosing a different path. Famke Janssen built an impressive career spanning three decades, from GoldenEye to X-Men and Taken.
Born in the Netherlands, Janssen initially studied literature and worked as a model before pursuing acting. Her breakthrough came in GoldenEye, where she played the memorable Bond villain Xenia Onatopp opposite Pierce Brosnan. Rather than being defined by that glamorous image, she explored darker and more unconventional roles in films such as Deep Rising, Rounders, The Faculty, and House on Haunted Hill. Her portrayal of Jean Grey in the X-Men films introduced her to another generation, while Taken reunited her with another major franchise alongside Liam Neeson. Janssen also stepped behind the camera, directing Bringing Up Bobby, and continued working in television with projects including Hemlock Grove and How to Get Away with Murder. She didn’t disappear—she simply evolved.
