Jennifer Esposito has reflected on the difficult experiences that eventually led her to step away from Hollywood and take greater control of her career. During an appearance on Maria Menounos’ Heal Squad podcast, the actress described years of pressure to meet industry expectations, including criticism over seemingly minor behavior and moments when she felt discouraged from speaking up about serious concerns.
Esposito said that after repeatedly questioning her experiences and working through them in therapy, she reached a point where she knew she needed a change. Before leaving that chapter behind, however, she was determined to complete Fresh Kills, a female-centered crime drama that she wrote, directed, and starred in. When traditional financing proved difficult to secure, Esposito said she ultimately mortgaged her home to help make the project happen. The experience became an important turning point, giving her the opportunity to create a film on her own terms. Her later move to Paris marked another personal transition, as she described feeling calmer, happier, and more independent.
